ADD-NI South West Launched
Wednesday 26th September 2012 saw the official opening of ADD-NI South West. Patricia Lewsley – Mooney, Commissioner for Children and Young People, supported ADD-NI in launching their first satellite office in Dungannon, Co. Tyrone.
ADD-NI Children’s Charity was established in 1997 as a support network for children, young people and families of those affected by AD/HD: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, today they run therapeutic AD/HD specific, group intervention programmes across Northern Ireland. Services offered by ADD-NI include ADD-NI’s 10 Week Parenting Programme, ADD-NI’s Young People’s Programme, Sibling Programme, Art Therapy, Individual Counselling and Training Packages.
Originally ADD-NI’s services were established within the greater Belfast area, however due to the level of need across Northern Ireland, ADD-NI have been working directly with the Belfast, Northern and South Eastern Trusts continuously, while trying to facilitate referral requests from families and professional agencies throughout Northern Ireland.
ADD-NI South West’s launch was ADD-NI’s pinnacle event of AD/HD Awareness Week 2012. The charity’s main aim of this year’s AD/HD Week was to focus on the positive attributes of the condition which include creativity, entrepreneurial skill and a fantastic sense of humour, and help overcome the obstacles that so often accompany it, thus reducing stigma experienced by parents and young people affected by AD/HD.
Commissioner Lewsley - Mooney‘ was delighted to support the organisation by officially opening the new premises, she was ’happy that these services were now more readily available to families in this area’. ADD-NI Director Sarah Salters would like to publicly thank the Commissioner for the level of support she has shown to the young people and organisation over the years.
ADD-NI South West’s new premises will enable the children’s charity to respond to the ever growing needs of families affected by AD/HD within the Southern, Western and outlying Northern Trust areas, ensuring all families can avail of ADD-NI’s services with ease.
ADD-NI would like to invite parents and families affected by AD/HD to an open information evening in our Dungannon premises on Thursday 8th November at 7.00pm.
